When it's really cold: Back in my high school daze, when I still lived in Missouri, I can remember complaining about the cold. I'm laughing at my teenage self a bit today, now that I live in North DaColda. Of course, my family who still live in Missouri know better than to complain to me about cold. But they do anyway.
Records have been set: It's been a lot colder than usual for the region the past couple of weeks. Our high has been below zero since Feb. 7. Our lowest point was minus 37 on Feb. 8 — which beats the 1914 record of minus 30. We also set new records Feb. 11 and 12 at minus 29 and 30 respectively. We've hit a turning point, according to the weather forecasters. We'll be above normal by the end of the week. Everyone, I'm sure, is cheering that, especially the folks at Sidney Health Center, where a broken boiler and busted pipe caused some flooding. You can read about that here.
What we're working on: Wednesday's edition includes a great story about a young man with Sidney ties who is vying to be in the winter Olympics in Tokyo. We also asked about the safety of the Sidney water supply, given what happened in Florida where hackers tried to poison a small town's water supply by remotely manipulating the levels of chemicals going into the system. And for Sunday, I'm talking to our state legislators about how things are going at the Capitol as we near the midpoint. There's been testimony on a range of bills of interest in Eastern Montana. Look for our report in Sunday's edition of the Herald.
Meanwhile, is anyone besides me dreaming of spring? I'm back to my seed catalogues this weekend to order more seeds than ever! We are also working on our Bakken Living magazine and our Spring Home tab at the Sidney Herald. They're both all about spring! Email me at editor@sidneyherald.com if you've got a great springish story to tell. I would sure love to hear it about now.
